A Clinical Study of Menstrual Regulation

Abstract

|
Menstrual regulation is a safe and simple fertility control method in outpatient base. The procedure is aspiration of mucosal lining of the uterus and products of conception before confirming pregnancy who missed period at least 1-5 weeks. The procedure is performed by insertion of flexible plastic Karman cannular without cervical dilatation at O.P.D. This study is clinical analysis of 500 cases of menstrual regulated at Inchon Christian Hospital from Jan. 3, 1977 to June 30. 1977. The results are as follows: 1. Age distribution on the most patient were 25-39 years old and median living children were 2.4. 2. Macroscopic examination of the aspirated material revealed that 28% of those in first week of delayed menstruation were nonpregnant, 14% of those in the second week, and 6% of those in the third week. 3. Overall complication rates were 8%, most of them were uterine clamp during procedure, 0.6% of cervical stenosis. 4. The failure rate was 0.4%.
